Responding To A Mental Health Crisis
The CHIP of Bergen County partnered with local law enforcement officers, mental health providers and advocates, planning and media specialists to produce a community health message on how to effectively respond to a mental health crisis.

Free or Reduced Cost Health Care and Services
The CHIP and Access to Health Care Task Force have compiled a comprehensive listing of free or reduced cost health care services available through a variety of organizations and providers throughout Bergen County. Categories of care/service include:

Health Insurance for Bergen County Residents
The Access to Health Care Task Force offers health insurance enrollment assistance and NJ FamilyCare enrollment events throughout the year in Bergen County. There are several enrollment options for county resident families who are either uninsured or underinsured.

The Bergen County Cooperative Library Systems (BCCLS) provides information for the NJ FamilyCare insurance program. For additional information, go to www.BCCLS.org
The North Hudson Community Action Corporation runs two centers in Bergen County where you can get further information and/or or enroll for health care. These clinics are in Hackensack, Englewood and Garfield. For additional information, visit www.nhcac.org/nhcacsites.html

Overview of Community Health Improvement Partnership:
The Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) of Bergen County currently consists of four task forces with volunteers from over 50 community organizations, businesses, schools, hospitals and private citizens, all interested in creating a healthier Bergen County. CHIP members develop, implement and promote initiatives to improve the health and lives of people who live, work, or attend school in Bergen County.
In 2006 following a county-wide health needs assessment, five health priorities were identified for Bergen County. Task forces are addressing these issues: Access to Health Care; Mental Health; Nutrition and Physical Activity; and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse
The CHIP of Bergen County also created a summary report of the health needs assessment, called the Community Health Improvement Plan (The CHIP Report), which you can access by clicking on the link to the left. It is available in English, Spanish and Korean.
